Swedish midsummer celebration in Gryt, pentathlon at Gärdet, Gröna Lund, Junibacken, Viking Museum, Skansen, boat trip under Stockholm’s bridges and walking through Gamla Stan all this 43 children and their 7 accompanying adults experienced during the “summer vacation week” in Sweden which was initiated by SRF (Swedish Travel Agency Association)
Beneath the children’s blue caps were big smiles, and it was nice to see that the children felt so comfortable in the situation, calm and well-mannered, says Karin Uddfors, who acted as host and also held the whole project together for SRF.
For most of the children it was the first time they traveled abroad, according to the leaders, many are traumatized and have fled their homes in Mariupol, most of the children now live in Kyiv. It was also from there that they started the bus journey that went via Poland and then ferry to Karlskrona.
The ferry crossing was sponsored by Stena Line and the accommodation with full board by Scandic. But more people have stepped up, all excursions and visits have been sponsored, and it’s great to see what can be accomplished with joint efforts.
New Hope is grateful that we were given the opportunity to help with the collection. A fantastic SEK 151,425 was collected in a short time and has mainly covered bus costs and food during the trip.
Many thanks to everyone who contributed! The week of summer holidays will surely live on in the children’s memories and brighten up the days when they are back in wartime Ukraine.
