Management report

General about the business

The purpose of the foundation New Hope Travel Industry Children’s Fund is to collect funds from private individuals, companies, organizations and foundations for the benefit of needy and vulnerable children in the world.

For several years, New Hope Travel Industry Children’s Fund has also organized a lottery designed as a Christmas calendar, where every day from the first of December to Christmas Eve you have a chance to win prizes donated by generous companies in the travel and event industry. New Hope Travel Industry Children’s Fund’s online store sells gifts related to New Hope’s projects as well as memorial and condolence letters.

The foundation New Hope Travel Industry Children’s Fund is a fund-raising foundation under the supervision of the County Administrative Board in Stockholm County. The foundation is controlled by the Swedish Fundraising Control. New Hope Travel Industry Children’s Fund has a so-called 90 account (BG 901-1883) and Swedish SWISH 123 901 1883. It is also possible to make donations to New Hope Travel Industry Children’s Fund via Facebook.

The board of New Hope Travel Industry Children’s Fund has extensive knowledge of the projects that receive financial support through the foundation’s care. Our recipient organizations are small and often run by passionate people. All organizations are established charities (NGOs) and New Hope Travel Industry Children’s Fund is never the only donor to the organization in question. New Hope Travel Industry Children’s Fund is constantly working on sub-projects, which the recipient must report before New Hope Travel Industry Children’s Fund starts a new sub-project. In this way, we strengthen control over how our financial support is spent.

All activities within New Hope Travel Industry Children’s Fund take place on a non-profit basis and none of the board members receive any remuneration. The goal is that as large a proportion of the collected funds as possible should go to the project for which the money was collected.

Significant events during fiscal year 2023

There is inflation all over the world and also in Sweden. Despite this, it seems that companies in our industry (the travel industry) are recovering from the pandemic. Some companies want to donate to children in need again, while others want to wait until a more stable period. This means that our contributions from companies have increased in terms of funds raised.

In 2023, the revenue was SEK 1,305,072. The administrative costs were SEK 62,436, which is 4.78% in administrative costs. Which is worse than the previous year, the main reason for this being reduced income from other foundations. The Christmas calendar brought in 493,190 SEK (486,510 SEK), the calendar brought in more in 2023 despite a smaller edition due to a price increase.

In 2022, we received a total of SEK 1,378,488, of which administrative costs accounted for SEK 49,872, which constituted 3.6% in administrative costs.

In 2023, we have continued with Facebook and Instagram on social media, which provides a certain amount of marketing. Many activities that New Hope normally participates in have been reduced due to lack of time on the board, however, New Hope Travel Industry Children’s Fund did participate in the travel industry fair “Travel News Market” in November.

The board had a total of nine (9) minuted meetings in 2023, one of which was the annual meeting including a constituent meeting.

New Hope Travel Industry Children’s Fund has supported the following projects in 2023:

House of Angels; Crete, Greece
The organization Union of Women Association runs a shelter for abused women and abandoned children, and New Hope Travel Industry Children’s Fund has contributed toys, among other things. Unfortunately, the feedback from the project has not been satisfactory and therefore we have chosen to end the collaboration.

School, Kiotani, Lukenya Hills, Kenya
Nairobi’s slums are getting bigger. These children are easily exposed to abuse and rarely have the opportunity to go to school. On the initiative of the organization Positive Life Kenya, New Hope Travel Industry Children’s Fund is working to establish a boarding school in the countryside about an hour from the slums. Work on this project has continued since 2013 and is now the largest project New Hope Travel Industry Children’s Fund has ever worked on. At Kiotani school, school activities are normally conducted for approx. 100 children. 91 of the children are boarding students aged approx. 8-14 years from vulnerable socio-economic conditions, while the other children come from the surrounding area and are at the school as day pupils. Because Kiotani School is located far out in the country, it is difficult to get staff who have to travel to and from the school every day. If you can offer staff housing, it will be easier to get better teachers, which will hopefully lead to better teaching. In 2023, New Hope has built six teacher’s residences and a water tower for the school’s vegetable gardens.

Social outreach – Kathmandu, Nepal
Nepal is one of the world’s poorest countries with corruption and child prostitution, many villages are remote and difficult to reach. The children here have it extra tough with hard work, little food and poor schooling. Therefore, their health is extra important. New Hope Travel Industry Children’s Fund contributes to two nurses who work with outreach activities among families with children in Kathmandu’s slums. During 2023, New Hope Travel Industry Children’s Fund has also sponsored a health and environmental project. One of the nurses has taught schools and villages in Kathmandu, how a bad environment affects one’s own health.

School, Secondary School KenSwed, Nairobi, Kenya
The ZB Foundation runs the KenSwed secondary school outside Nairobi. This boarding school attends children from socioeconomically disadvantaged areas from all over Kenya. The school accepts both boys and girls. Through a collaboration with the ZB Foundation, New Hope Travel Industry Children’s Fund can offer a number of places for students with high academic results at Kiotani School in Nairobi and New Hope School in Mombasa. The upper secondary education is 4 years. In 2023, 18 students were sponsored at the KenSwed school.

School and Orphanage, New Hope School, Mombasa, Kenya
Work to improve the school building at the New Hope school and orphanage outside Mombasa has been ongoing since 2012. In 2015, New Hope Travel Industry Children’s Fund began a project to raise academic standards by sponsoring good teachers to the school. After that, the students of New Hope school have always achieved top results in the central exams that end the junior high school. Thanks to the good grades, several children have received scholarships to prestigious high schools in Nairobi and the rest of Kenya. In 2023, Mombasa was exposed to major floods and New Hope Travel Industry Children’s Fund contributed with the renovation of the wall and curtains for the classrooms.

Orphanage, Novy Dom, Reni, Ukraine
The business consists of orphanages. The war has hit Ukraine hard, but thankfully the orphanage has managed relatively well. Since the war is still going on, more children are coming to Novy Dom. Reni is located in a very deprived part of Ukraine and unemployment is high. Much of the misery is due to severe alcohol abuse. New Hope Travel Industry Children’s Fund has financed the orphanage from the beginning and the house was bought in 2003. Over 10 years, extensive renovations were carried out, and since 2014 New Hope Travel Industry Children’s Fund has supported, among other things, the operation of the orphanage and homework helpers.

Children’s Center, PEFAN, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
PEFAN is a center for orphaned or vulnerable children and young people between the ages of 3 and 20. In order for the children to grow up as normal as possible, they live with their family or foster families in the area. The children come to the center one day a week to get homework help and other support. New Hope Travel Industry Children’s Fund has provided support for school fees, school uniform etc. to eight children who are extra vulnerable and are currently between 13-16 years old. In addition, support has been given for family support (costs for food, etc.).

Talita’s program here consists of trauma treatment, teaching and future planning. School, Theodori School Chandrapura Jharkand, India
The collaboration with Theodori has been going on since 2012 when New Hope started a project to refurbish the old school and boarding school. Since 2016, New Hope Travel Industry Children’s Fund has been funding school lunches, as the government support is not enough for lunch for all classes. The school receives some support from the state for teacher salaries, but the state does not support all teachers. In recent years, New Hope Travel Industry Children’s Fund has also sponsored a specialist teacher in English and Science, but also a nurse who checks the pupils’ health and gives vaccinations.

School and Orphanage, Rajiv Gandhi Memorial School for the Physically Challenged,
Challagundla, India

In 2017, New Hope Travel Industry Children’s Fund began cooperation with this orphanage and school for children with disabilities. New Hope Travel Industry Children’s Fund has continued to support the project with renovation and modernization of buildings, establishment of a vegetable garden and playground, as well as teacher salaries and extra food. In the last year, lattice gates have been built so that the children can be safe at night.

In total, these projects have been supported with SEK 1,360,827 during the past year.
Reporting from all projects has worked in an excellent way with pictures, financial reporting and stories from the various operations. Thanks to well-managed projects and low administrative costs, we at New Hope Travel Industry Children’s Fund’s board feel that we can guarantee that every kroner collected is used optimally and that the money collected goes to the purpose for which it is intended.
